Biofuels Analysis – The use of biofuels (fuels derived from plants and renewable materials) is growing steadily, driven by socio-economic demands for more responsible use of natural resources with less negative impact on the environment.
To successfully meet market demands, manufacturers need to lower production costs and increase yields. As a result, the use of Near Infra-red (NIR) spectroscopy is rapidly increasing throughout the growing bioenergy industry. NIR is extremely effective for determination of oil content of soybeans, corn, rape seed, algae and other crops, as well as quantification of key parameter levels in bio-oils. The increased use of NIR analysis is directly attributable to the cost-effective operational ease and reliable nature of NIR as an analytical tool.
Biomass Analysis – The efficiency of biomass production can be enhanced at every step of the process, from monitoring soil content to assessing final product energy output. Each phase of this process involves sampling and testing, traditionally conducted in a lab scenario. ASD’s NIR spectroscopy technology allows for accurate real-time characterisation where and when it’s needed, throughout the production process. BaySpec/Rigaku Analysers – Raman technology
Optical spectroscopy is increasingly used for both academic and commercial purposes in the study of biologics, including tissue and disease characterisation, cellular microanalysis, food inspection, and microbe identification, among others. Raman spectroscopy, in particular, has been used extensively for these biological studies due to its molecular specificity and portable instrumentation. With various instrument options available, systems can be configured to sample from the macro- to micro-scale at multiple wavelengths to avoid intrinsic fluorescence and maximise Raman signal.
